CitedBy

Terms of service

Last updated: 10 September 2026

These terms cover your use of CitedBy (citedby.co.uk), operated as a sole trader business in the United Kingdom. Contact: hello@citedby.co.uk · CitedBy, 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. By creating an account or subscribing you agree to them.

What CitedBy does

CitedBy is a subscription service for local service businesses. Depending on your plan, we research the searches worth winning, write and publish articles and landing pages to your website, prepare your directory listings, monitor what AI assistants and Google say about you, capture enquiries from your site, and help you manage your Google Business Profile. Some actions run automatically once you switch them on; anything that changes your live website’s structure, or posts publicly in your name, only happens with your approval or your explicit opt-in settings.

Your account and your site

What we guarantee — and what nobody can

We guarantee the work we control: the agreed number of articles and pages produced each month on your plan — built in CitedBy and ready for you to publish or copy/paste — or that month is free. The website we build for you is not part of this guarantee; see the website we build for you. We do not — and will not — promise rankings, AI citations, traffic or revenue. Anyone who guarantees you a Google position is having you on. Search engines and AI assistants decide their own results; our job is to give you the strongest possible case.

What the guarantee does not cover. Publishing to your website is only ours to control once you have connected it. Work does not count against the guarantee where we could not do it because:

We will tell you when we are blocked, and what would unblock it. Where a month is genuinely short because of something at our end, that month is free — no forms and no argument.

Billing and cancellation

Content we produce

Content we write and publish for your business belongs to you once it is published to your site and the month it was produced in has been paid for, with the payment kept. We may use anonymised, aggregated results (never your name without permission) to improve the service. You must not use CitedBy to publish anything unlawful, misleading about your qualifications, or intended to game search engines in ways that breach their guidelines — we build the safe way.

The website we build for you

On the Pro plan we can build you a website from the details we hold about your business and, when you ask us to, publish it to your own hosting. It is part of your Pro membership, and it is not covered by the monthly work guarantee above: we either deliver it or we do not.

Replacing your website. If you ask us to publish a website we have built for you to your own hosting, publishing replaces every file in the folder your domain serves from. Before we publish we give you your current website to download, and we keep no copy of it after your download completes. By confirming, you tell us that you have downloaded and kept your own copy, that you understand your old website is replaced, and that you accept responsibility for the change, including for anything on the old website you still needed and had not told us about, such as forms, files, scripts or settings kept in that folder. We move your old files to a separate folder on your hosting, and you can restore them from your account. Beyond that, we are not liable for the loss of, or any loss arising from, the website that was replaced, and our liability for anything to do with publishing to your hosting is subject to the Liability section of these terms. Your hosting, your domain and your email are yours and stay under your control; we do not change your domain’s settings.

Connected services

Connecting WordPress, Google or other platforms is optional and governed by those platforms’ own terms. You can disconnect them at any time. How we handle data from Google is described in our privacy policy.

Liability

We provide CitedBy with reasonable skill and care. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is capped at the amount you paid us in that period, and we’re not liable for indirect losses such as lost profits. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Agencies

An agency subscribes on behalf of its own clients. The agency’s clients are the agency’s customers: the agency sets its own client pricing, invoices its own clients, and owns those relationships. We invoice the agency per active client at the rate stated on our website or agreed in writing.

The agency confirms it’s authorised to manage each client website it adds, and that the client information it enters is accurate.

White-label branding means the agency’s name, logo and colours appear on client-facing dashboards, reports and emails. The service itself runs on our infrastructure and domains.

Email sending is governed by the Email Sending Terms, accepted in-product before any sending features activate, which are part of this agreement for agencies. Outreach email requires the agency’s own verified sending domain and email provider account.

Pausing or removing a client stops the engine for that client and stops that seat’s billing from the next period. The section on content we produce applies per client.

Changes to these terms

If we make a material change we’ll email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use CitedBy after that means you accept the change.
